Movie Where Guy Gets His Hand Cut Off After Being Told Not to Touch the Person Again

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Television receiver Cut)

I've just started watching Robin Hood Prince of Thieves for it'due south latest Aqueduct 5 showing.

Right from the off at that place's an extended cut at the prison where the inmate gets his hand chopped off, with an extended screamings preceded by the dialogue "Show them the backbone of Allah".

This is only the second fourth dimension I have seen this cut. I have not seen this on the VHS, original DVD and 20th Anniversary DVD. Simply it ever appears on the TV?

Why is this?

Thank goodness someone else noticed these actress scenes. I have watched this film a hundred times before (yes I am that person!) only this night it was similar watching a new picture altogether there were loads of new $.25 I had never seen before. Maybe C5 have got an uncut version, just seems weird like you say this version is not on a DVD or blu ray.

Most of these scenes were added in for the 20th ceremony DVD.

In many means I prefer the original release. But even the events in my OP weren't on that DVD. Not mine anyway :)

I doubt they'll have left in the F bomb spoken by Christian Slater towards the end though, merely it depends on what time information technology started at. If it was later on 9pm and so maybe, but certainly non earlier.

I watched the Blu-ray final weekend - get-go time I've seen the moving-picture show in *years* and first time I've seen the different cut - and I was very surprised when Slater said that.

The censorship history of this motion-picture show in the UK is some what long winded. The bbfc cut 14 seconds for PG for picture palace, the hand amputation scene existence reduced, and Slaters F bomb existence changed to blimey.

The bbfc so decided based off complaints received that they hadn't cut information technology enough, the VHS had 36 seconds of cuts-

The manus amputation scene in the introduction was further reduced with sight of the amputated hand being removed along with screams from the victim.
Shot of prison house guard rolling off of hot coals and screaming was removed.
Bloodied face of a soldier was removed after being hitting in the face by Robin using a crossbow.
Fiddling John line "Well, I'll be buggered" removed
Close upwardly of stabbing and claret oozing from the wound removed.
Shut up of the witch using her nail to cut into her arm to draw blood removed.
Line removed "I take never seen the breasts of a noble lady before"
Iii shots of Little John's son, Wulf, choking on his noose were removed
Sequence where the Sheriff is spreading Marian'south legs trying to take her in the nuptials scene removed.
Little John line "Bugger me" removed.
Volition Scarlett line "**** Me" changed to "Blimey"
Sight of a bloody dagger existence withdrawn removed.
Sight of the witch's bloody face was removed.

The 2003 PG rated dvd had some cuts waived, but some remained, to the manus amputation, the hanging, Rickman spreading Marian'south legs, and the F bomb.

The 2009 United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland release blu-ray is completely uncut and rated 12. Five accept patently shown the uncut version after 9pm.

  • Aha!!

And then he did say "blimey..." :D

I though over the final 20 years I'd gone mad. I heard the F bomb last night and I could honestly say I never heard it like that earlier.

I heard Christian Slater advertising libbed the F flop version and they kept it in. It's been driving me mad since then. :D

  • Aye - I remember that this film was featured on Barry Norman's Pic Programme on the BBC, when it was covering the BBFC and how information technology sometimes changed films for the video market.

I've ever idea that it was very strong for a PG(that's in its cut form) - just considering of Rickman's Sheriff trying to rape Marian!

  • I call up Ferman is on tape as saying his biggest error at the BBFC was passing Robin Hood with a PG rating.

Of course another problem with all these different versions is that TV guides label it as the more family-friendly PG version and don't realise the harsher 12-rated version is being broadcast.

I think Ferman is on record as saying his biggest error at the BBFC was passing Robin Hood with a PG rating.

Of grade another trouble with all these different versions is that TV guides label it equally the more than family-friendly PG version and don't realise the harsher 12-rated version is existence broadcast.

H was an interesting graphic symbol for sure. I believe he once told the Daily Mail that Romper Stomper had been given an 18 uncut due to an admin error (!)

  • Great movie

    Buy it.

    Kevin Costner at his best.

  • The quango of the barons was completely new to me.

  • The council of the barons was completely new to me.

    Information technology was to me!

  • I think Ferman is on record as saying his biggest fault at the BBFC was passing Robin Hood with a PG rating.

Of class another problem with all these different versions is that Telly guides label it equally the more family-friendly PG version and don't realise the harsher 12-rated version is being broadcast.

I thought it was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom?

  • I thought it was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom?

Well, he did take bug with ToD merely he says his one main regret was the Robn Hood rating:

    http://www.melonfarmers.co.uk/bbfc_cuts_robin_hood.htm

The BBFC'south Manager, James Ferman, would later retire from the BBFC in 1999. He would become on to state that his one regret during his time as the Board'south Chief Censor was passing Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves with a PG rating.

Think I saw it mentioned in a documentary as well.

I idea it was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom?

Ferman flew to L.A. to sit down with Spielberg while he did the edits the bbfc wanted, and then I doubtfulness he could have been that unhappy with it. Ferman did send a letter to the distributor saying the bbfc were despondent after the starting time viewing and said the film was borderline 15/eighteen without cuts.

This is the scene that e'er sticks in my heed.
I saw it at the cinema, but never since on any version (But I don't merits to have seen every version at all).

  • I really do think it's one of the best films ever made! Especially in the uncut version. It's only a brilliant ball of fun and madness, with a great score and the cast having a whale of a time. IMO it took until Pirates of the Caribbean came along before anything came shut to matching it's cool adventure tone.

The serious parts are really well done also. I guess a lot of people volition see it as a 'stupid' Robin Hood film, but they should dismiss information technology at their peril! There are then many archetype scenes and lines. If you've never watched it properly, or at all, seek it out. :)

  • I say information technology'due south a archetype merely I'm biased ;)

Its i of the offset films I ever recall seeing. I know pretty much every scene from heart. Alan Rickman'due south Sheriff character is a archetype, Costner is fantastic in the title role regardless of his accent and the score is fantastic.

I simply wish they would release more than of the music because the current albumn isn't enough.

  • I think this is the Robin Hood most people remember.

I hold. It's an excellent film.

  • Channel five seem to air quite a few film equally extended, but dont e'er make it clear they are doing so, they had the unrated version of dumber and dumber recently, i never knew it existed until i seen an extra scene i didnt recollect.

  • Without checking, i deceit call up whether rickman did this or dice hard first, but either way he was an important part of 2 slap-up films.

Non to mention his similarly exquisite malevolence in harry potter,

  • Again, the extended version is existence shown.

I watched the normal DVD cut on Netflix a couple of weeks ago so this is similar watching a new pic.

    (Recovering Sunday hangover Television receiver!)

  • I don't enjoy the extended version as much. Things don't make sense, like the secretary getting his tongue cut out and needing a slate to communicate, and and then suddenly recovering the power of speech when the plot requires it. It's only not every bit abrupt every bit the cinema release, which I knew dorsum to front after seeing information technology around 17 times. The VHS had a few edits, similar cut out the Sheriff splitting Marion's legs, but information technology was still very much the same film.
Oh, and I never heard Slater saying F*** Me, I ever heard information technology as "Fie me!" which could technically exist seen every bit a version of that, only I always idea was merely an odd script selection to try and shoehorn ye olde references.
